Degree in ‘Art and Design’ at GMIT GalwayMy subject matter is primarily the Landscape, reflecting on walks and places I have been, letting my memory guide me intuitively through a Painting. Impressions of the Irish landscape lived in and travelled through. I want to capture an essence of a lived in moment into my paintings; the wind through a meadow, the light dancing on the water, the vivid flash of a mountain lake. Vibrant colours to uplift; describing moods of landscape reflecting moods in us. Paint applied directly onto canvas or paper, often with the use of a palette knife, giving a painting a spontaneous energy. Sometimes I mix oil paints with cold wax to add extra texture and movement. Interpreting and abstracting the Landscape is an objective, experimenting with different tools and materials keeps my art practise fresh and interesting.
