Painter Julianne Guinee was born in County Cork and graduated from University of Limerick in 2011 with a Bachelor of Education and Mathematics.
Her paintings chronicle her world, exploring themes of motherhood, grief and isolation.

Although Julianne painted from an early age, she began to paint full time in 2019 following the deaths of her twin children Mabel and Blaise in infancy.
In our culture, babies’ deaths are viewed as taboo and disrespected with silence. Mental health is openly discussed but there is pressure to focus solely on positive emotions. ‘Positive vibes only’ is a popular mantra which can leave people experiencing life changing events, like sickness or grief, feeling isolated, judged, and pressurised to keep feelings hidden.
Julianne challenges these attitudes in her work. Her goal is to create pieces that use beauty, technical mastery, and a timeless subject matter to convey a narrative that uplifts and reassures people experiencing grief or sadness that it is a normal, natural part of life but also that they are not alone. 

The appeal of her work is eternal, unblemished romantic realism.
